Settlement agent

Settlement agent

A settlement agent is a person who acts to facilitate settlement between lender and client, another name for a conveyancer.

A property settlement agent's role is to assist in the transfer of property ownership from a seller to a buyer. Lawyers and settlement agents are qualified and licensed to ensure that all legal requirements for the transfer of title to the property are met in order for the title to be registered in the name of the new owner. They are responsible for exchange of transfer documents, stamp duty forms, mortgage files, and other legal documents.

The settlement process can be complicated, so it is best to use a qualified professional to guide you through it until the settlement is completed.

A settlement agent and conveyancer are ultimately the same thing.
